Abstract
Background and Aim: Anthrax is one of the most important zoonotic diseases in the western border regions of Iran and occurs seasonally in Kurdistan Province. The aim of this study was to examine the seasonal pattern of anthrax occurrence and to propose educational–preventive strategies adapted to local conditions.
Methods: This qualitative research was conducted through analysis of veterinary reports, disease surveillance data, interviews with community health workers and health network staff, and field observations in border villages. Data were analyzed using thematic content analysis.
Results: Educational activities lacked sufficient consistency, and the roles of schools, local councils, and village administrations in health communication were underutilized. Livestock owners often failed to take early symptoms seriously. Comparative analysis showed that the seasonal pattern of anthrax occurrence in Kurdistan is similar to that observed in West Azerbaijan, Kermanshah, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Conclusion: Anthrax in the border areas of Kurdistan is more of an educational–cultural challenge than a therapeutic issue. Strengthening culturally adapted education, enhancing community participation, and expanding digital communication can help reduce the transmission cycle.
