Brucellosis is one of the most common bacterial diseases that affects humans and animals. The World Health Organization (WHO) introduces brucellosis, which is caused by Brucella species, as a zoonotic disease. Among the most common species, we can mention Brucella melitensis (B. melitensis) and Brucella suis (B. suis). B. suis is less common in Iran than other species. Human brucellosis is a systemic disease characterized by a wide range of symptoms and non-specific effects on several organs and tissues. Brucellosis is common in many developing regions of the world, including the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and South America. Diagnosis and treatment of people suffering from this disease is still one of the challenges of medical science. Identifying this disease requires examining the patient's clinical symptoms as well as using serological, microbiological and molecular culture laboratory methods. Considering that a suitable vaccine for humans has not been discovered yet, one of the ways to prevent and control this disease, with the aim of preventing its spread in humans and animals, is animal vaccination. Also, to prevent this disease, one should be careful in consuming dairy products. Considering the prevalence of brucellosis in developing countries and its consequences on public health and livestock, the purpose of this research is a comprehensive review of the routes of transmission of this disease from animals to humans, as well as its prevention and treatment strategies.
