Abstract: (82 Views)
Anthrax is one of the most important zoonotic diseases in the western border regions of Iran and exhibits a clear seasonal pattern in Kurdistan Province. This study aimed to investigate the seasonal distribution of anthrax cases and to propose educational and preventive strategies tailored to local conditions. This qualitative study was conducted through the analysis of veterinary reports, disease surveillance data, semi-structured interviews with community health workers and health network staff, and field observations in border villages. Data were analyzed using thematic content analysis. The findings indicated that educational activities related to anthrax prevention lacked sufficient continuity and coordination. The potential roles of schools, local councils, and village administrations in health communication were underutilized. In addition, livestock owners often failed to recognize or take early symptoms of the disease seriously. Comparative analysis revealed that the seasonal pattern of anthrax occurrence in Kurdistan Province is similar to that observed in West Azerbaijan, Kermanshah, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Anthrax in the border areas of Kurdistan appears to represent primarily an educational and cultural challenge rather than a therapeutic one. Strengthening culturally appropriate educational interventions, enhancing community participation, and expanding digital communication strategies may help disrupt the transmission cycle and reduce disease occurrence.
